Our client had just restructured several departments which resulted in completely new admin teams supporting a much larger unit.
The new admin teams included some people who had worked in the old structure for many years and some completely new appointments. Some were firm friends, most didn't know each other beyond a role title. They were coming together to provide admin support in a very different way to a large number of people used to a dedicated individual service. They faced many challenges
- Chaos arising from the restucture
- Resistance to changes to the way admin is provided
- The need to establish new processes and systems
- Individual ideas about the best way to do things
- New relationships with people in the team
- The need to pull together as one
We designed team days for the new teams to help break down barriers in the way that they perceived each other, to establish a common purpose and shared values and to capture best practice to inform the development of shared processes and systems. Both teams left feeling energised with a sense of solidarity and shared purpose. They took away working agreements to implement back in the office, capturing the way they'd agreed to work together to share information, coordinate activities, foster positive working relationships and get the best from themselves and others. They have since met and reviewed their progress at team meetings and are facing their challenges in good spirits!
